Treatment specialization includes:
Adult Psychotherapy:
I collaborate with my patients to create a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship within which the individual can explore and clarify difficulties, come to a deeper understanding, and make changes that lead to a more fulfilling life.
I integrate psychodynamic, interpersonal, mentalization, and mindfulness approaches, and tailor the work to the individual needs of each patient. We can address concerns in areas including mood, anxiety, life transitions, loss and grief, friendships and romantic relationships, navigating complex family dynamics, and developmental/attachment and relational trauma.
**I also specialize in working with patients who grew up in families with one or more parents on the borderline/narcissism spectrum, and and/or who may have found themselves in relationships with people with similar traits as an adult--including friends, partners, and employers. I am versed in the theory, research, resources--and occasional pop culture misinformation--about these personality adaptations. Together, we can explore how best to navigate and emerge from these situations with safety and sanity.
Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy:
Therapy can help you and your child gain a better understanding of his or her thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a collaborative environment that promotes flexibility and change. Using a number of methods tailored specifically to the needs of each child, I work to address issues such as adjustment and separation difficulties, anxiety and depression, trauma and loss, academic problems and social skills deficits, behavioral challenges, and more.
Pre- and Post-Partum Counseling:
Sometimes caregivers can feel overwhelmed or have concerns about their baby. Other times it can seem as if the baby is struggling or there may be worries about the baby's development. When a problem arises for the caregiver or baby, it is often most helpful to address it by working with the two together.
I have specialized training in Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders as well as Parent-Infant Psychotherapy. Parent-Infant Psychotherapy is a relationship-based treatment for infants, young children, and their parents based on knowledge about infant mental health, extensive parent-infant research, and an understanding of how our earliest relationships are established and can impact the lifespan. This modality aims to foster or restore a "good-enough" relationship which can then enable babies and young children to resume developmental growth while reaffirming their caregivers' well-being.
Examples of some concerns include: pre- and post-partum anxiety and depression, infant sleep and feeding issues, emotional regulation and behavioral concerns, and separation difficulties. I am also experienced in helping patients cope with pregnancy loss and/or fertility issues, as well as traumatic birth experiences.
